QUILT: Choosing new paper pieced stars

 I reviewed my completed stars and marked them off in the book with post-its to choose the next stars:

My friend Watson at Orr Springs supurrvising the layout of all 12 stars from my original "50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars" kit.  By the end, I'm a lot more proficient and have decided to do another 6 stars to make this into a queen size quilt. Stay tuned for additional star reports!

Six stars are fully complete:  

One star is mostly complete:  it's definitely getting easier. I no longer use the spray starch or pins - I just hold the fabric together, place it against the light and then sew! 

Not ripping stitches and reworking nearly as much as the first few stars.

 As of New Year's Eve 2022 - I now have completed 4 stars.  It is getting easier - I have to let go of the need to absolutely maximize every tiny bit of fabric and let go of some scraps being just almost big enough but not quite for use:

 It's true:  this is a super finicky type of project.  My first star, the green star being inspected by Watson at Orr Springs below, took me two days to complete.  The next star took half that time.  I experimented with spray start, pins and all sorts of things:

 

 

QUILT PROEJCT: 50 Fabulous Paper pieced Stars

In 2011, I bought this book (with CD!) and pre-cut fabric for 12 stars from a quilt store in SE Oregon - and have sat on it for 10 years.  I have never done paper piecing and it seemed like it would be too fussy and a PITA.  I've just picked it up again and I'm really glad that I did because:  the software to read the patterns on the CD is obsolete!  I had to export them all as PDFs but a couple of them didn't want to behave - so I had help from a friend who had a lot of older operating systems and now I have a full set of 50 PDFs for each star in the book.
